Lecrae became Dr. Lecrae Moore this weekwhen Canada Christian College awarded him an honorary doctorate of music degreeat a stop in Toronto on the Higher Learning Tour.
“Over the college’s 50-year history, it hasbestowed honorary degrees to notableleaders such as the Hon. Jim Flaherty, lieutenant-governor David Onley, Rev.Franklin Graham and now Lecrae, who willbe the youngest recipient of such a degree,” Canada Christian College president Dr .Charles McVety said, according to the Toronto Sun.
McVety penned a letter to Toronto mayorJohn Tory and police Chief Mark Saundersabout the occasion.“Lecrae was raised by a single mother andhe never met his father,” McVety wrote. “Hewas lost in the inner city of Houston takingdrugs and reportedly dealing heroin.
God dramatically turned his life around from theghetto to the pinnacle of success. Now Lecrae wants the same for others as he istaking his message of hope and fatherhoodto inner city youth.”For Lecrae to receive this honor on theHigher Learning Tour is fitting, consideringthat it’s a college tour, on which Lecraehoped to inspire the next generation.
“This tour allows me to be involved andinspire some of the most impactful andinfluential leaders of tomorrow,” Lecrae said. “College is where many of the world- changing thoughts and ideas are birthed. Iwant my music and my message to helpinspire those ideas.”
