The 37-year-old gospel singer posted graphic text on Instagram of “The OTHER Serenity Prayer” that he received in class.
“God, grant me the serenity to stop beating myself for not doing things perfectly, the courage to forgive myself because I’m working on doing better, and the wisdom to know that you already love me just the way I am,” the prayer reads.
“I got this today in class and I wanted to share it with you. Tag 3 Friends,” he wrote.
James has been undergoing therapy for over a year, after being charged with assault that he allegedly committed against his ex-wife Cheryl Fortune in 2014. Although Cheryl was never officially confirmed as the victim of the alleged assault that led to the singer’s arrest, ABC13 reported that she suffered severe injuries at the time.
While Fortune is grateful that God offered him forgiveness, the singer needed to overcome his anger issues in order to be renewed.
“A lot of times you’ll always say what you’ll never do but when you can’t control your anger anything can trigger and make you do something that maybe you felt like you would never do. For me I ask God, of course I thank God for forgiveness but for me it was more than just forgiving,” Fortune said on syndicated radio program The Yolanda Adams Morning Show last year. “I wanted to be better. I wanted to be changed. I wanted God to do something on the inside of me so that my story, my testimony could help someone else.”
For that reason, Fortune insisted he is not ashamed to tell his story.
“Talking about this is so much better than hiding it or justifying it,” he revealed in a Periscope last month. “I’m free and God is giving me the strength to become a stronger and better person.”
