Thinking too Small? See how the Bible can help you get rid of the ‘Grasshopper Syndrome’ || Read For Free

If we’re honest, we’ve all been guilty of having “Grasshopper Syndrome” at one time or another. What is this syndrome, you might be wondering?

Well, remember when in Numbers 13 the Lord sent the Israelites to scout out the land of Canaan, which He had promised them? The Israelites were ecstatic about escaping the wilderness… and then they saw the Canaanites.

The size of the people in the land they were supposed to conquer made the Israelites feel like grasshoppers, too weak and insignificant to take on such a strong people.

At times, we can feel like the mission God has given us is too big to take on. We feel inadequate and small. When you get to feeling that way, here are 5 scriptures to remember:

Nehemiah 9:6 (ESV)- “You are the LORD, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you.” Know that the same God who created the entire universe and sustains it by His unique power, is working through you! You don’t have to be incredibly big or impossibly strong, because what you lack in the physical the Lord will make up for in the spiritual.
Judges 7: God, Gideon and Midian. The Lord assigned Gideon the daunting task of delivering the Israelites from the Midianites. Not only that, the Lord also shrunk Gideon’s army of thousands to an army of three hundred. He did this so that the Israelites would know it was by the power of the Lord that they were saved, and not by their own hand. Sometimes, the Lord will give you a huge assignment while you have limited resources and abilities. The task at hand appears to be disproportionate to what you are equipped to handle. But you can do all things through Christ. If you’re obedient, God will show forth His glory through you.
1 John 4:4 (NKJV)- “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” The opposition we face in life is real, but take heart! You have the Overcomer of all things living inside you. The problems you face may be big, but God is bigger. He’s bigger than your lack of education; bigger than the negative health report; bigger than the negativity coming your way. He is greater than everything the enemy does to stifle you and hinder your progress in the Lord’s work.
Luke 9:10-17: Jesus Feeds Five Thousand. Jesus fed five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish—a feat that, in the natural, is impossible. But God is supernatural, and nothing is too hard for Him. If He can feed thousands with five loaves and two fish, He can certainly effect change in the world through someone such as yourself, no matter how small you feel. Just remember that you don’t have to struggle to equip yourself with all that you think you’ll need; God will supply.
1 Samuel 17: David & Goliath. When facing huge obstacles, we must be like David in versev45 (NIV), which reads, “…You come against me with a sword and spear and javelin, but Ivcome against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” The world may come at you full force, but have no fear. You’re on the winning team. The Lord will fight your battles for you and you’ll come out on top even when it looks like you don’t stand a chance. Just as David defeated a giant significantly taller, stronger and more experienced in war, you will also have victory in your situation!

Rebuke fear, worry, self-doubt, and whatever else may be plaguing you. If God has set you on a mission, neither earthly obstacles nor the spiritual forces of evil can stop it.

You may be small and underequipped by man’s standards, but you’ve got Jehovah-Jireh, your provider, adding His size, unlimited power and unfailing strength to your stature. So then, you have all you need!
