Christian rap/hip-hop artist, NF unveiled his latest hard-charging single, “Paid My Dues,” and an accompanying eerie music video few days ago.
In the clip, the rapper confronts everything from clickbait and critics to hypocrisy and haters as he levitates above a grimy couch, swings from the ceiling and hangs in a decrepit locker room wearing a black, Joker-esque smile.
“I read your article, it kinda hurt me/ I don’t know who hired you or what your friends say in your circle/ But the fact that you released it tells me two things are for certain:/ They get paid for trashin’ people, I get paid ’cause I stay workin’/ Dropped The Search and they emerge up outta nowhere to the surface/ Just to peek behind the curtain throwin’ salt at all my burdens,” NF rhymes breathlessly, before kicking the song into an even higher gear with his trademark rapid-fire delivery.
While the visuals are in line with the rapper’s previous video for “The Search” — all the way down to the bouquet of black balloons in both clips — “Paid My Dues” follows his 2019 album as a one-off single. The Search debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 earlier this year, beating out Chance The Rapper’s debut studio album, The Big Day, and spawning singles “Why,” “When I Grow Up,” “Time” and the abovementioned title track.
